For example, if you are using bubble bags as starting material, you should use pressures between 300–700 psi for a maximum yield of 80%.
For kief, the ideal range for pressure per square inch is between 400–800 with a maximum yield of 60%.
While using flowers requires a range between 600 to 1000 psi and a maximum yield of 30%.
Although you may want a higher yield, it’s best not to exceed these guidelines as you may be pushing fat, lipids and chlorophyll into the rosin, which will reduce the quality. This is especially true when using high pressure.

Just be sure to invest in a high-quality model that provides the necessary pressure and temperature ranges.
Temperature Range
There are two generally accepted temperature ranges for pressing rosin.
Cold pressing is usually done between 130°F and 170°F for about 1 to 5 minutes or longer. This will give you a bud or hitter-like consistency. Cold pressing is great for maximizing terpene preservation, but you can expect lower yields.
Hot pressing is typically between 170°F and 220°F for about 45 seconds to 3 minutes. This will give you a greasy or crumb-like consistency. If you keep it below 220°F, the terpene retention rate is still high and the yield is higher than cold pressing.
To achieve the best balance of quality and yield, we have found that the 210°F — 220°F range is particularly effective for floral rosin. But it also depends on the type of consistency you’re trying to achieve and the type of starting material you’re using. For example, if you are making Bubble Hash Rosin or Dry Sifted Rosin, you may want to start at the lower end of the temperature scale, about 140°F to 200°F.
Note that you will start to lose terpenes above 220°F. The loss of flavor in terpenes becomes especially noticeable when you reach 235°F. That’s not to say, however, that higher temperatures don’t have their uses. For example, if you are doing a post-THCA separation, you might hit 300°F.
Ultimately, you will need a rosin press that can handle a temperature range of about 140°F to 300°F. In addition to this, you also need to ensure that the machine is capable of precise temperature control.
